Narcissism is a term used to describe people who are self-involved to the degree that it makes them ignore the needs of those around them. Typical signs of a narcissist include selfishness, a sense of entitlement, a lack of empathy, and an excessive need for attention and admiration.
When someone posts one too many selfies on their social media or talks about themselves constantly during a first date, you might call them a narcissist.
But a true narcissist is someone who has narcissistic personality disorder (NPD). Individuals who have NPD believe they are superior and unique compared to others, and they expect to be recognized and treated as such. They are often unable to recognize the opinions and needs of others and are dismissive of others’ problems.
If you have a narcissist in your life, it can be hard to tell if they’re creeping on you. The signs are easy to miss. Narcissists can be very charming and persuasive, so they’ll do everything they can to make you feel good about yourself- even if it’s all in the act.
