The First Category
In the first category, we have those narcissists who honestly do not know that they are narcissists. They may not have even heard of the term “narcissist” and are convinced that the way they think is not only normal, but it is how most people are—or how everyone thinks.
They believe everyone has a mask and that everyone is pretending and presenting a made-up image that they think others want to see, although they are not happy with themselves and feel that something is wrong because they foolishly think that this is how the world works. They continue down this path until they are faced with the truth.
The Second Category.
In the second category, we have narcissists who are in denial. These are narcissists who would have heard of or know the term “narcissist” and “narcissism,” but are in denial that they are the narcissist.
So they would quickly seek to set themselves far away from ever being linked to that word. For example, some go to the other extreme of the scale and call themselves empaths, but these types would just continue in denial for as long as they can, painting others as narcissists, but it surely cannot be them.
