4. Grudges
Another common feature with covert narcissists is grudges. Oh my god, no one, and I do mean no one can hold a grudge against another human being or entity other than a bonafide covert narcissist. The reason is that they are so easily offended.
Remember, they may be more timid and shy than the overt narcissists, but they still have an overinflated ego and sense of importance. They think they are every bit as important and deserving as of special treatment as the overt narcissist. And when they feel slighted or disrespected whether real or imagined, they can hold a grudge against whoever created this particular narcissistic injury for years.
So anytime I come across someone that has a long-held grudge against someone or something, I take a much closer look because this person very well may be a covert narcissist.

In closing…
And last, but certainly not least, the covert narcissists like all narcissists are pathologically envious of other people. Any time I detect genuine envy in another person, that’s a clue to me that I need to take my time with this person. Because the reality is, covert narcissists feel very low to no levels of empathy, guilt, shame, regret, remorse, and compassion, but they feel envy with every fiber of their being.
And covert narcissists have the victim mentality as I mentioned before. So many times, they will be running this narrative that life has cheated them out of whatever they deserve, or they have just never gotten their fair shake in life. The world has never recognized them and acknowledged them in the manner they are deserving of because of all their glorious talent or whatever.
So typically, they will be envious of other people, and if you pay attention, you will usually see this trait pretty early on. So always be on the lookout for envy because that’s a huge red flag of narcissism.
