8 Ways To Spot a Lying Narcissist

5. Pay attention when they are noticeably vague.

The next way to spot when a narcissist is lying is by paying attention when they are noticeably vague. Now, when this happens, your intuition is probably lighting up because there are going to be some non-verbal cues that are going on here too. When somebody’s avoiding something, it’s very likely to come out in the body in some way, a facial expression, something in the voice. There’s going to be something there that’s going to trigger your intuition to tell you to pay attention.

And this one is especially telling if you’re talking about something that you talk about a lot. So, imagine the narcissist in your life goes to their friend’s house all the time every week, let’s say, for a card game. And every week they come home and they tell you all the details, stuff that you don’t even want to hear. They just tell you what everybody said, and all the drama that’s going on in everybody’s life, What was on the television, who stopped by, they just talk and talk and talk about this thing. But then one day, they go over their friend’s house, and you ask them about it, “Hey, so how was it?” And you expect the same. You expect all the same details, but you get none. Instead, they say something like, “Oh, it’s great,” and then they walk away.

Now, of course, people can respond this way for various reasons, but, like I said, your intuition is going to guide you in this case. If they’re hiding something, not only will their response be vague, but you’re going to pick up on something. There’s something there that they’re not telling you, and you can almost feel it, like you can feel the anxiety that kicks in when you ask that question.

6. Providing too much information.

The sixth sign is the opposite end of that spectrum, and that is providing too much information. And just like the last one, this is especially telling if the person doesn’t provide a lot of information normally. A lot of them fall into this category. They provide information on a need-to-know basis. But suddenly, they’re sharing everything about this specific event, and it’s nothing really that stands out. It’s all basic, kind of boring details, but they’re just unloading on you.

The reason why people do this when they’re lying is because they think that the more information they share, then more believable it will be, because who would take up the time to think about what color shirt you were wearing and whether it was windy that day? And they might even share facts like that that are verifiable. So, if you question their story, you can look up these little side facts and see whether they’re true or not. And if you find out that some of them are true, then you might start believing the rest of the story.
