Rejection is painful for anyone, narcissist or not. How you deal with rejection determines if you are a hoovering narcissist or not. When rejecting a hoovering narcissist, they will begin to spread gossip as a form of retaliation. This gossip could be small, but enough to have people’s heads turn when you walk into a room. They will make you alter your perception of reality and make you believe that maybe you are crazy coming to them with all of these accusations.

They may go as far with their lies and attempt to ruin your reputation with future employers so you can’t move up in your career. And they do this so you will run back to them while vulnerable and emotional and use them as a clutch. The narcissist will feel important and feel like their plan has worked.
