Narcissists like to convince people that we are the ones putting on an act, that we are not who we seem to be. They are so dramatic convincing and relentless that many people end up believing them, even if it’s just in the beginning. But their entire aim is to get people to distance themselves from you, to view you with suspicion, distrust you, confront you, insult you, and, hopefully, choose to have nothing to do with you.
The smear campaign is the narcissist’s ticket to seeing us exposed though it may all be lies, to seeing us insulted as the flying monkeys are sure to attempt to make us feel like rubbish, and finally face abandonment from those who are closest and dearest to us, so that we can end up alone, broken, and ashamed.

The smear campaign allows the narcissists to see their greatest fears played out in our lives, hoping it will cause as much destruction for us as it would for them. Narcissists hate and hurt any and everyone, even those who dare to love them the most. Many of us would not want to wish our darkest fears on anyone, but a narcissist would. And not only do they wish it, but they actively strive to bring it to pass.
Therefore, never trust a narcissist and never let them fool you into thinking that they are not as bad as you think, or that they genuinely care and have your best interests at heart. Because a narcissist’s heart is set on causing mischief and strife continually, and it is not something that they themselves can control.
