3. Friends with Benefits.
The third way Narcissists would carry on with their exes is as friends with benefits. The narcissist will still want to flirt and hook up whenever they can. They would cheat on their current partners with their exes who they view as familiar territory or easy prey. Narcissists are loyal to no one and have no qualms using their exes to fulfill their needs. It’s validation to the Narcissist that they are still desired or wanted by their ex. Because even though they may have discarded them the fact that they are still desired by them really boosts the Narcissist’s ego. It is never about the other person but instead how they make the Narcissist feel.
4. Mortal Enemy.
The fourth way Narcissists would carry on with their exes is sometimes, not at all, for whatever reason the Narcissist departs with the only desire to ruin their partner as much as possible. So, expect a smear campaign, expect flying monkeys and people questioning your character or reputation. Expect people to turn on you or against you, etc. The Narcissist not only wants nothing to do with that ex but they also want as many people in their lives as possible to abandon them.

The hatred and animosity that the Narcissist has would be tied to the reason they ended the relationship.
