Weakness number 4: Thin-skinned, labile moods.
The narcissist really doesn’t want you to know just how very thin-skinned, fretful, hysterical, and hypersensitive they truly are. Even the grandiose or so-called classic narcissist, we’re actually discovering is extremely emotionally labile and the underlying infrastructure of their personality disorder is still compensating. So they’re still making up for a lot of their self-perceived lack, which means that they’re dealing with a tremendous amount of self-loathing and that superego inner critic that’s out there pointing fingers and accusing other people of failures, of weakness, of stupidity, and you know the inabilities to do what they can do.
That inner critic is also attacking them as well. They’re very, very thin-skinned. They’re very paranoid and they tend to assume that there are conspiracies against them that are taking place all the time even when there really are not. This can lead to them becoming very nervous, jumping at shadows and ultimately becoming rather afraid, physically and mentally exhausted.

And at that point, they will become quite touchy. They’ll become quite snappish and aggressive over very petty little pieces of psychological and emotional territory that they’re looking to defend. When you notice a narcissist getting very picky and very defensive, it’s usually this thin-skinned hypersensitive fretful, and hysterical essence that they have that’s causing them to behave in that way.
